NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Soldiers returning to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station received a warm welcome home from family and friends.
More than 90 Army National Guard soldiers returned home Friday after nine months in Afghanistan.
During their tour, the engineering division guardsman had the dangerous job of finding and clearing IED's from Afghani roads.
According to commanders, the company did not suffer any fatalities.
"All but a few soldiers stayed behind. They have a couple minor medical things but nothing serious. They'll be home in a week," said First Lieutenant Justin Simon.
One returning soldier, Derek Bessey, made the homecoming very memorable by proposing to his girlfriend, Amanda Wart. She said yes.
