WEST SENECA, N.Y. -- Caleb Bantin-Barney's snowboarding plans this winter were postponed after a serious car crash in September, but he's remained in high spirits as he's seen well-wishers rally to support him.
The 19-year-old spent six weeks in the hospital after the accident in September.
As his recovery continues, he was able to take part in a benefit in his honor, Saturday, in West Seneca.
He suffered a traumatic brain injury and two broken legs from the accident and underwent multiple surgeries.
Bantin-Barney says he can walk now for a short distance.
"No matter what you're going through, always keep your head up, and everything will always get better. No matter what, it'll always get better," said Bantin-Barney. "I might need another surgery, but that surgery is making me better. Whatever needs to be done in order for me to be normal, that's my goal. I'm actually happy."
Funds raised Saturday will the help the family with medical and living expenses.
