Museum Celebrates Lincoln Anniversaries

Museum Celebrates Lincoln Anniversaries
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo History Museum continued its tradition of celebrating our 16th president's birthday and the 150th anniversary of his most famous speech.

In celebration of the two events, an Abraham Lincoln recreator recited the Gettysburg Address, Sunday.

Civil war era enactors, dressed in period costumes, mingled with museum visitors and musicians played music from the period.

"We were such a new nation at the time and Lincoln didn't want to see our country separate," said Tara Lyons, the museum's program manager. "He did all we could to keep the union together. Now, we can look back in hindsight and see all the important events that took place."

Lyons said the museum has been celebrating Abraham Lincoln's birthday for 139 years, the longest running celebration of its kind in the country.
