BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan is urging Kaleida Health to team up with the Urban Land Institute to decide what can be done with the current Women and Children's Hospital campus.

The hospital is moving to a new location on the Buffalo Niagara Medical campus by December of 2015.

Ryan wants to start the re-use project now, citing Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital, which remains vacant a year after closing, despite having a re-use plan in place.

Assemblyman Ryan sent a letter urging Kaleida Health to begin work with the ULI on a site study to find the best use for the campus.

"Involvement by the ULI will take time, so it's critical that we begin this process as soon as possible," said Ryan, (D). "The West Side and the Elmwood Village community deserve to know that every possible type of engagement is being explored."
