Rare piano from Buffalo may fetch $600,000 on auction block
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A rare piano from the Buffalo area is up for auction, and is expected to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann-designed piano came to the U.S. aboard the French ocean liner Normandie in the 1930s. It was purchased by the Butler family of Buffalo in the 1940s.

The piano is expected to sell for between $400,000 and $600,000 during an auction at Sotheby's in New York City in March.

Sotheby's says the piano is one of only six Ruhlmann pianos whose whereabouts are known,
and also one of three with an unusual shape.
