BUFFALO, N.Y. — One person was injured Thursday afternoon in a house fire in Buffalo.

Crews responded to the fire on Lafayette Avenue just before 3 p.m. Thursday to find a couple and their baby on the roof, trying to escape the fire.

Christopher Moyer said he woke up to find smoke and flames filling up his staircase. He says it was a scary ordeal.

"It was pretty scary, especially when we realized we couldn't get off the roof and we saw flames coming through the door so I was definitely waiting for the firefighters," Moyer said.

Firefighters say one person downstairs was burned and was taken to the hospital. Their condition is not known at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
