MAYVILLE, N.Y. — Organizers in Mayville continue to prepare for the Annual President's Day Weekend Winter Festival. But, due to the lack of ice on Chautauqua Lake, it will be without the traditional ice castle.

Instead, crews have been building a giant kids snow slide and snow structure. Coordinators say Saturday's fireworks show will be bigger and better than last year, and they expect the event will draw thousands of visitors to the area.

"The hotels right now are full. People are anticipating a big weekend and you can just see when you drive through here on the the weekend, it's just a huge difference on the population. And it really does work for bringing people into town," said Ken Shearer, Mayville Chamber President

The festival kicks off Friday evening with the outdoor Snow Ball Dance.
