Bench press competition raises money for local veterans
BUFFALO, NY--Local first responders were doing a different sort of heavy lifting Saturday at the Connecticut Street Armory. More than 100 competitors showed off just how much weight they could put up.

It was part of the 10th annual Red Brick Bench Press Competition. Organizers say this is the biggest event of its kind in the country. The competition raises funds to support Western New York active military members, veterans and their families.

Dennis Brouchey, who organized the competition, said, "We owe them a lot. Western New York has lost over 50 troops over the last 9-10 years, and we are trying to honor them by giving out outstanding lift awards in their honor".

Organizers hope to raise $5,000 this year.
