HANOVER, N.Y. --- Chautauqua County restaurant has been heavily damaged after a car came crashing through it Tuesday morning.

Chautauqua County Sheriff's Deputies say an elderly male driver lost control of his vehicle, crashing it into the front of Tom's Family Restaurant at the corner of Route 5 and 20 in Hanover.

A glass dome covering a dining area was shattered. Luckily, no one inside the restaurant was hurt.

"He backed out leaving his bumper in the, right here in the inside and proceeded to pull away," said restaurant worker Sue Peacock. "And another customer ran out, got into the passenger side, threw his car in park and then the authorities were called," she said.

Deputies say the driver and an elderly female passenger were taken to the hospital for observation. The restaurant will reopen Wednesday.
