BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A retired sheriff's deputy announced his candidacy for Erie County Sheriff. He is also after the Democratic endorsement.
Richard "Dick" Dobson threw his hat into the ring Friday surrounded by family, friends, and members of the law enforcement community.
Dobson worked as a deputy for 32 years. He said he's concerned that the Sheriff's Office is heading in the wrong direction. He cited problems at the holding center as a major issue.
"I have worked for six different sheriffs - both major political parties. Each of them had their own individual style, different way of doing things," said Richard Dobson. "I learned from each and every sheriff. I learned what works and I learned what doesn't work."
Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard has not said if he is running for re-election this year. Howard has been the county sheriff since 2005.
