WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Increased school security was the topic of conversation for the Williamsville School Board at its meeting Tuesday.
A proposed $300,000 in security enhancements was discussed for the next school year. The measures include adding 13 five-hour monitors, one for each of the district's schools, and a four-hour a day school resource officer employed by the district.
Amherst police chief John Askey said the increased security would benefit Williamsville's schools.
"These are not things that in and of themselves are going to help prevent terrible emergencies or terrible disasters like happened in Sandy Hook. But they are incremental, positive enhancements to their already excellent security system", said Askey.
Money for this proposal would be taken from other budget lines.
